What Makes Up ME

In my life I have worn many hats. I have also had many roles over the years. Disk Jockey, Policeman, Engineer, Programmer, Entrepreneur, Evil Genius, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Guru, Mentor…just to name some, in no particular order.

When I heard that Sherlock Holmes referred to the place he gathered all his esoteric thoughts and inspirations as his Mind Palace, I thought it to be a very appropriate description of what is in my head. This place is where I share just a few of these things with you. I hope you will find inspiration, challenges, and humor as you peruse the ramblings I post. Comment if you like either openly or in a private e-mail.

New Job

Doing what I love

After 5 years with my previous company an opportunity to teach full time came up and after serious deliberation I decided that this was a good move, so I did.  I will now be teaching Cybersecurity topics to people world wide as part of the Mandiant Academy. (July 2022)

Next Cert?

Linux+ here I come

I have been thinking a lot about my next certification and I realized that I want to be sure I know all the things about linux. I use it and teach it a lot, but I don’t know what I don’t know – as they say – so  we will see…. Ancora Imparo.

Python

Getting better all the time

I spent a fair amount of my winter break studying Python and building scripts to do different things. One was a routine that moves the mouse on the screen every 2 minutes so the screen doesn’t lock. Yes, I know, I have numerous different Mouse Jigglers, but not a software based one. And as I like to say, the best way to learn a programming language is to build something you will use.

Anti-Siphon

Great Training!

I heard about some “Pay what you can” training put on by Anti-Syphon, which is a side organization of Black Hills Security, which is run by John Strand. If you get a chance to take some of this training I highly recommend it. John and his tea are great instructors who make it fun.  I did the Cyber Defense and Cyber Deception class and it was amazing. The answer to why they call the training Anti-Syphon is simple…it doesn’t suck. (May 2022)
