Oh My God, HEIC Files!

At work this week there was an e-mail chain that started because someone had sent in several files with .heic at the end.  We had gotten a few before and one of my team members asked if I could open them, which I could, so I did and saved them as .jpg files and sent them back.  But, that team member had left and nobody on the team remembered that I had done it.  So the panic button got hit.

Did one person ask Google or Bing or Me?  Nope.  Instead they went out and found every Windows utility that could open and convert the files. Unfortunately a couple of the utilities they downloaded were not the best quality and caused more problems. They would open the file…Oh? you want to save it?  That will be $39 please.

I finally chimed in and let them know that the files were from an iPhone or iPad and that a Mac would open them and convert them easily.

You Ain’t from here are you?

My wife is studying several cool topics in college this semester, and I am trying to be a good partner and help her with a couple of her projects. One is growing things in water instead of dirt, and yes I know this is called aquaponics.  She needed a seed starter kit and I dutifully trooped over to the big box store (Lowes) to get one.  I looked around for a bit in the gardening section and couldn’t find one.  So I saw a nice employee and asked.  He looked me up and down and his eyes stopped on my OU hat.  I can see you aren’t from here are you?”  Uh, no I said. ” It’s getting cold now and nobody around here is trying to start a garden. Matter of fact  that pile of fire starters is where the seed starters would be if it was that time of year.”

Yeah, I am getting a kick out these New England folks who I swear have never seen a Texan before.
